Can you water vegetables with gold water?

tomato

Question:
Is it harmless to water edible things with gold water? Can medicines be transferred to the edible?

Reply:
Yes, it is harmless to eat things fertilized with gold water. Theoretically, medicines can be taken up by plants, but so far it has not been measured in any crop in Sweden, not even where they have been fertilizing with sewage sludge for more than 30 years. This is probably due to the fact that medicines break down well in the soil, and that the soil-root barrier blocks well against large molecules such as medicines. However, if you pour gold water on e.g. a lettuce leaf (which you shouldn't, you should pour it on the soil next to the plant) and you can imagine that a little urine with medicine stays on the leaf. When the water has evaporated, some of the urine with its medications may remain on the leaf. This is another reason why one should not pour urine or golden water on plants.
