Press - Guldkannan celebrates 15 years!

Compost is a slow-acting nutrient store and urine a faster-acting one. Therefore, compost and urine work as good complements to each other.

Guldkannan celebrates 15 years

Åsa Lövberg created the Guldkannan Towa in 2009. The design is a combination of a watering can and a toilet. The unique design makes it possible to sit down and pee and then fill the rest of the jug with water. In this way, our urine can contribute to plant nutrition in an ecological and sustainable way. Nowadays Guldkannan AB is managed by Klara Lövberg.

- My mother started the company to be able to give something back to nature, to be able to contribute to nature's cycle, not to make money from it, says Klara Lövberg.

The National Recreational Agriculture Organization (FOR) has funded the Swedish University of Agriculture's (SLU) trials and data collection on how human urine can best be used as plant nutrition. Håkan Jönsson, professor of cycle technology at SLU works and researches urine as a plant nutrient. Urine has been used since ancient times and can produce seven times greater yields. Golden water is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Nitrogen is needed for healthy growth and development, phosphorus has a decisive role in biological processes, photosynthesis, energy transfer and development of strong roots. Potassium is important for the development and growth of roots but also contributes to improving plant resistance to disease.
